The Council of Tenerife launches a website to promote the inland region of Tenerife South
The Council of Tenerife has launched a website to promote the tourist offer and attractions of the inland region of Tenerife south. This initiative is developed in the framework of the “Proyecto Cauce Sur” (South Course Project) for the social and economic development of the inland region in the south of the island. The new website was presented in a press conference by the Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries Department councilor, José Joaquín Bethencourt, and the responsible for the technical advising department for agriculture and rural areas development and coordinator of this project, Javier Suárez.
The island’s council has been working for several years in the development of strategies to dynamize and provide an added value to the region located between Güímar and Arona. For that reason, the new website www.caucesur.com has been launched to provide information about the tourist offer in this region, including points of cultural and historical interest, including basic information about them, as well as services in the area.
Bethencout said that the main goal of this project is to enhance the value of this region and the elements that form part of its identity such as the beautiful landscapes and its cultural and historical heritage that includes churches, wineries, old bridges, royal tracks, protected areas and more. The council considers fundamental to promote the tourist potential of these natural and historic areas to boost the socioeconomic development of its inhabitants.
Besides, Javier Suárez said that apart from a list of points of tourist interest, the website provides historical references about the construction of the “Carretera General del Sur” (south highway) and the social and economic situation of the region during its construction. The website also includes information about services such as lodging and restaurants in the area and old and late pictures of the shire as well as articles about the agricultural development of the area and its cultural heritage. About services in this route, the website includes detailed information about rural hospitality offer, and other services including wineries, marketplaces, and more.
On the other hand, the council in association with the municipalities that form part of this route are working to finish this year the signposting of the route, the conditioning of the paths in each municipality, and the improvement of the services and leisure activities offered by each one of them. To finance these works, the Agriculture Council has signed a series of agreements with the municipalities to provide subsides in the framework of the “Programa Proder” (Proder plan), which will help to conclude these works.
