Over 22,000 people met at the ‘La Pasión de Adeje’
Adeje – The men and women from Adeje repeated this year, one of the most important social-cultural events of the municipality, The Passion of Adeje, the production that this year has reached an historic record of citizens’ participation counting with more than 350 assistants from different areas of Tenerife, and from a variety of nationalities that the municipality has nowadays. The Passion was broadcasted by Antena 3 Canarias channel live.
This year more than 350 assistants, which is an historic record of participation, from different nationalities and origins, staged the last days of Jesus, which was live broadcasted by Antena 3 Canarias channel.
More than 22,000 people, who came from every corner of the island, as well as a significant number of tourists, who where spending their vacations these days at the Adeje coast and the southwest region, met to have a fist hand and live experience of one of the most emotional moments of the Easter Week in Adeje, which at this moment counts with an international renown highly respected and valued.
The Adeje major, José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga, outlined that “the Passion and Death of Jesus performance is an event that define us because it is deep-rooted on our own identity, it is one of the most beautiful days, if you will, because it has a special magic, and besides it forms part of our roots, of our history, and as it can be appreciated, it is experienced with a deep intensity”
Following, he clarified that “today we have seen a Calle Grande street full of people of different latitudes and origins, and I think it has been a marvellous moment, and I am sure that we have carried out a magnificent performance because we have a quite strong team, and above all, because we have worked very hard to carry out the maximum Adeje’s men and women expression of the sacred drama”.
The major clarified that the “La Pasión de Adeje” performance was initiated in 1999, and from that date, each ear, different elements have been incorporated which have made from the Adeje’s Passion a cultural reference in the history of the municipality.
The Passion performance that took place at the Calle Grande street in Adeje, started at 12 a.m., it lasted one and a half hour, and succeeded in having the entire attention of the presents that let their tears roll down their faces due to the visual impact of this production.
Among the aspects to be highlighted of this Passion of Adeje outstands the special prominence that had the scene of the arrival of the people to Jerusalem that recreated a small street market where the play’s participants interacted among themselves. Another novelty is the messianic entrance of Jesus to Jerusalem, which was a bit longer than usual.
The scene of the Sanhedrin developed in a more private environment, the attention was focused on the Sanhedrims. The last supper also incorporated changes due to Jesus arrived accompanied by boys and girls who this time gained a more leading role due to their level of participation.
Besides, on the first scene of the Passion there were changes too, because there were a flash back in which the character of an old Saint John appears writing and telling part of the story in this gospel.
