The ULL (Universidad de la Laguna) University could provide tuition in several degrees in Adeje as from the period 2011 -2012. The Council of Adeje has offered to this education institution the facilities to provide education and they have constituted a joint commission in charge of studying which degrees the university would teach in this municipality.

This is the final stage of the project established in the framework of the collaborative relation between the ULL (University of La Laguna) and the local council. The first phase of this collaboration agreement was the Summer University of Adeje, which 18th edition that will be hold between 19th and 30th of July was presented yesterday by the vice-chancellor of the institution, Eduardo Domenech, together with the vice-chancellor of the University – Society Relations department, Nélida Rancel, the major of Adeje, José Miguel Fraga, and the town councillor in charge of the Culture and Education area of the municipality, Epifanio Díaz.
For the moment, the town council has offered the cultural center of the city for the location of the university’s campus, but it is willing to dispose other spaces for the ULL, “the necessary ones to bring the university to the municipality”, said the council of Culture who outlined the willingness of the council to reach agreements with private companies if it is necessary to get this objective.

Adequate conditions
The governing board of the university has already visited the facilities offered by the council and they considered “they have the adequate conditions”, pointed out Eduardo Doménech.

The vice-chancellor added that the idea is that the university provides tuition in “at least one degree, maybe two” apart from one or two Master’s degree. Once the commission defines which will be the degrees, the university will start to “appoint the academic staff to the centers”, added Doménech. This procedure will take a year approximately, and for that reason the initiative will get under way in the period 2011 – 2012.

This is a strong intent to bring the ULL to the south, a request also made by the municipality of Arona. The major of Arona, José Alberto González Reverón, proposed recently to this university the settlement of a campus in this municipality providing the necessary plots for that purpose. However, the hinder in the obtaining of the necessary economic resources for the campus’ construction (Canarias government has declined to provide economic assistance) supposes an obstacle for this plan to be achieved.
