The British travel operator Jet2.com, has reinforced its presence in the Canarias Islands with the intention to beat the total of 184,000 tourists they had transported to Canarias during winter season expecting to have good occupancy in the following months.

Steve Heapy, chief director of this travel operator, confirmed yesterday the new flight connections the airline will provide between the Canarias Islands and seven British airports for the next winter season and the 2011 summer season, when the airline of this group will offer 24 flights per week. Fifteen of them will be between the main British cities and Tenerife, seven flights will connect Lanzarote to the UK and the last two will connect Gran Canaria to the main cities of the UK.
Heapy presented the new catalogue of the company at the Magma’s conference center in Adeje, Tenerife, during an event that counted with the presence of the Council of Tourism of this municipality, Miguel Ángel Santos, who highlighted that “although the number of passengers this airline transported to and from the island between 2008 and 2009 was about 125,000 it is estimated that for the end of this year the number will reach 184,000 passengers”.

Likewise, Santos said that Tenerife is the preferred tourist destination for British tourists among the Canarias Islands, and he added that Jet2.com transports to Tenerife about 5,000 British passengers per week.
Santos was also satisfied with “the agreement this company has with 40 hotels in the south of Tenerife, being the total number of agreements in the archipelago 75”. He also highlighted the advertising campaigns this company carries out to promote the archipelago as tourist destination. With this respect he said that “these campaigns reach 34 million potential visitors”. This is a consolidated airline that counts with a fleet that includes 10 Boeing 757 and 24 Boeing 737.

On the other hand, Heapy said that the prospects for this summer season are good providing an offer for their customers “adapted to the present times” and he assured that there will be a “high occupancy to the Canarias Islands”.

Heapy also said that “it is cheaper for a British tourist to travel to the Canarias Islands because the tax is only 11 euros while other destinations like Egypt have taxes up to 65 euros”.

The chief director of Jet2.com also said that their “all inclusive” package is part of their strategy that focuses on customers with a higher purchasing power. This “all inclusive” offer includes four and five stars hotels but they also offer three stars hotels which provide good prices and quality service.
